This NORHED Rising Schlars session will introduce key research method concepts to help participants better understand how variables are defined, measured, and analysed in research.

Learning Objectives:

  • The four levels of measurement (Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, Ratio)
  • Implications for the levels of measurement 
  • Hypothesis Formulation: Mastering the creation of null (H0) and alternative (H1) hypotheses that are testable, falsifiable, and linked to research objectives.

Facilitator's Bio

Professor Olufemi Martins Adesope is a Professor of Agricultural Extension/ICT in Agriculture at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, with over 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and community engagement. He is a skilled data analyst and research manager with expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methods, using tools such as SPSS, MS Excel, and ATLAS.ti. Professor Adesope has led and consulted on major research and capacity-building projects for national and international organisations and continues to advance the integration of ICT and data-driven approaches in research and agricultural development. He currently serves as Project Manager for the Gender Equality Policy Project (GEPP), a collaboration between the University of Port Harcourt and Bournemouth University, UK, and actively mentors early-career researchers across multiple disciplines.
