This panel explores how early-career researchers can critically engage with journal articles- from identifying the right reading materials for their research questions, to analysing, assessing, and spotting gaps in existing literature. The discussion aims to help researchers move beyond simply collecting articles to actually synthesising the right information to strengthen their own research.

FACILITATORS

Dr. Charles Kalinzi, PhD
Public sector procurement specialist and Senior Teaching Fellow in Strategic Procurement at the University of Portsmouth, and post-doctoral researcher in purchasing and supply chain management. He holds a PhD in Public Procurement from Makerere University and several professional certifications (MCIPS-UK, CILT-UK, CPP-IPPU). His research focuses on sustainable procurement, social value creation, and innovation in public sector procurement across Uganda and the wider East and Southern Africa region.

Ssentongo John 
Public Health Researcher, Research Ethics Specialist, and Physiotherapist with an MPH in Research Ethics from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda. He specialises in research ethics, capacity building for early-career researchers, and scientific writing, and serves as a Foundational Steward with Rising Scholars, facilitating online courses. He also reviews for Springer Nature journals and has worked with the MUST Research Ethics Committee.

Dr. Swati Gupta
Academic, researcher, and educator with over 19 years of experience in accounting, finance, and higher education. Her research spans AI in education, accounting education, financial literacy, sustainability, and digital transformation. She has published extensively, edited books and special issues, and regularly runs workshops on research, academic writing, and the effective use of AI in higher education.
