Writing Centers: An International Resource

Creado por Barbara Gastel | Abr. 25, 2010

Greetings again. I hope that all is going well.

At our university, the spring semester will end soon. As usual, we’re inviting groups of students to our home for end-of-semester dinners.

The dinners this semester include dishes from various parts of the world. Among them are a Middle Eastern appetizer, a Mexican chicken dish, a European style beef dish, a South Asian style lentil curry, and American style bar cookies.

Delicious foods are available in many regions of the world. And so are resources for writers. Because of the Internet, we can be nourished by such resources from many regions. Let me say a little in this regard. . . .

This week Julie Walker at INASP mentioned that she had found another excellent resource. This resource is from the Purdue Online Writing Lab (“Purdue OWL”). It provides links to OWL resources that non-Purdue University students and instructors can access. Among topics of these resources are the writing process, logic, style and language, and citation.

Many other writing labs and writing centers also have openly accessible resources. One way to find some of them is through the Writing Centers Online page of the International Writing Centers Association website.

This page has links to websites of more than 40 writing centers around the world. Most of the writing centers are at the university level, but some are for primary or secondary school education. A section of the page has links to websites of centers specifically for users of English as a second language.

Wishing you some good browsing! –Barbara
