We are excited to announce our new self-study course, Introduction to Research Ethics! We are pleased to have extended our offering of self-study courses to nine tutorials. The advantage of self-study courses are that you can undertake your learning at times convenient to you, at a pace that suits you. You can enrol in any of our self-study courses at any time. What is this course about?
This course is an introduction to research ethics. You will explore what ethics means and its importance; consequences of ignoring ethical issues; how to be an ethical researcher; and, whose responsibility it is. You will learn through real-world examples, across seven 'lessons'. The lessons comprise of reflection activities, quizzes, videos. You will read papers and protocols, and review case studies.
What are the learning outcomes for this course?
By the time you have finished the course, you should be able to:
- Explain key principles and codes of research ethics
- Evaluate the ethical soundness of a proposed research study
- Critically assess ethical challenges and dilemmas across the research process, drawing on past examples of unethical research and current pressures on researchers
- Apply step-by-step approaches to seeking ethical approval
Around how much time will this course take?
You should expect to spend around 6 to 10 hours on this course. As this is a self-study tutorial, you can take it at your own pace. However, we do recommend that you aim to complete the tutorial within 3 weeks of beginning.
What are the completion criteria?
To complete this course and earn your certificate, you should:
1) Complete the pre-course survey; 2) Go through all the lessons; 3) Pass the 'Test Your Knowledge' quizzes (unlimited attempts are allowed); 4) Complete the feedback survey
