Biografía:

Dr. Musenyente Elijah, is a Lecturer and disability inclusion specialist, having learnt about un-addressed disability concerns in the community through extensive research and own encounters as a person living with mobility impairment (uses a wheelchair for mobility). He is dedicated to embracing diversity as well as acknowledging the specific individual needs of persons with disabilities to ensure their full participation. He is Emeritus Ag. Head Department (Year 2022) Community and Disability Studies, Kyambogo University, Uganda. Prior to joining the academia, he was a Director, Uganda Society of Hidden Talents (HITS) a local Civil Society Organization advocating for disability Inclusion. Dr. Musenyente has a PhD in Special Education from the University of Buea in Cameroon. His PhD research focused on the ‘Physical infrastructure in secondary schools and the performance of students with physical disabilities in Cameroon.’’ He has a Master of Arts in Special Education Needs – (SEN) from Roehampton University-London, in partnership with Fontys University of Applied Sciences-Tilburg-Netherlands and Charles University, Prague - Czech Republic. He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Special Needs Education (PGDSNE) and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance (BAF) both from Kyambogo University-Uganda; and a Uganda Diploma in Business Studies (U.D.B.S.) from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) as well as a Certificate in International Visitors Leadership Program “Community Service and NGOs” awarded by Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of The United States Department of State. Dr. Musenyente has done several researches on disabilities, participated in multiple workshops and represented Persons with disabilities at various forums including the Uganda National NGO Forum; and Technology Working Committee of Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET) in 2003. He is a founder member of Uganda National Action on Physical disabilities (UNAPD). In 2002 he was appointed a Member of Advisory Panel for Water, Engineering Development Center (WEDC) Loughborough University-United Kingdom (A research Project on Access to water and sanitation facilities for People with disabilities). In year 2014 in partnership with ‘Advantage Africa’, he participated in ‘An Assessment of the Social, Cultural and Institutional Factors that Contribute to the Sexual Abuse of Persons with Disabilities in East Africa’ funded by International Foundation of Applied Disability Research (FIRAH). Dr. Musenyente is zealous in sharing his skills and experiences as well as spear-heading the transformation of society through change of negative attitude and making original contributions to the knowledge of disability research, done by persons with disabilities themselves (disability emancipation) so as to present workable solutions to the government, private sector, service providers and other stakeholders that will improve the lives of people with disabilities. He has passion to working together across disciplines in an environment of interdisciplinary dialogue, cooperation and conducting targeted research as well as working with people from other disciplines.
