Biografía:

Betina Lukwambe is a senior lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam and a distinguished expert in aquaculture, fisheries, and marine ecosystem health. Her research focusses on sustainable aquaculture systems, environmental biotechnology, and marine microbiomes, employing advanced molecular techniques to address key challenges such as nutrient cycling, waste management, and disease control in aquaculture. Through her work, she contributes to the development of resilient coastal communities and promotes sustainable practices within the blue economy. Beyond her academic role, Dr. Lukwambe is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at Michigan State University (MSU) under the African Futures Research Leadership Programme, aimed at strengthening the research capacity of African scholars. She plays a key leadership role in various organisations, serves as a Country Representative in the Steering Committee of AFRIMAQUA, Board Member of the Blue Economy Organization (BEO), a member of the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA). She also an active member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). As part of her dedication to STEM education and gender equity, she is involved in empower young women in STEM fields. She works on revitalizing Tanzania girls historical schools to boost female enrollment in STEM disciplines in Tanzania. Through mentorship programs, she continues to inspire and support the next generation of female scientists. With her expertises, Dr. Lukwambe is a trailblazer in aquaculture innovation and gender advocacy.
