Biografía:
Dr. Abdeltawab has over 10 years’ experience in systems biology and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of infectious diseases. Her doctoral research at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN, USA States focused on application of systems biology approaches to identifying genetic factors modulating severity of infectious diseases. Using GWAS she mapped quantitative trait loci (QTLs) modulating differential host responses to a number of infectious diseases including streptococcal sepsis, candidiasis, pneumonia, and Ebola. In addition, with a continuous focus on translational research, Dr. Abdeltawab has successfully completed genome-wide transcriptional profiling projects, including mouse spleen (for more than100 BXD RI strains) and a human genome diversity cell line panel (CEPH panel- Centre d’Etude du Polymorphisme Humain). These high-throughput studies were deposited in GeneNetwork online platform aiming to compare expression pathways in mice and man to maximize translational research between these two species. Currently, Dr. Abdeltawab is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. Nourtan’s long-term career goal is to extend her systems biology research to pharmacogenomics. Dr. Abdeltawab starting research group in Cairo is studying pharmacogenetics of hepatitis C virus (HCV), a health and economic burden in Egypt. Dr. Abdeltawab is the recipient of 2014 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Levant and Egypt fellowship award. Furthermore, Dr. Abdeltawab won 2015 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Rising Talent award for her project on pharmacogenetics of HCV.
