In the past 10 years I've worked on gender and governance issues in conflict affected and fragile countries (Somalia, Northeastern Kenya, Sierra Leone, Sudan, etc). I have experience in institutional reform, civil society development, women’s empowerment, violence against women and human rights. My skills include strategic planning, policy development, peace-building, conflict resolution and development, program development and design, research and teaching, fundraising, media outreach and public relations, advocacy and lobbying, staff training and development, human resource management, equity in the workplace, gender analysis, gender mainstreaming, and participatory research. I am a seasoned, experienced trainer and manager of both projects and people. I am currently involved in the promotion of start-ups/entrepreneurship and use of ICT as innovative tools of empowerment for women in Somalia. I am one of the Board Members of the African BN Poetry Award (http://www.bnpoetryaward.co.ug/) and a Community Board Member of WorldPulse (https://www.worldpulse.com/en/about-us/biographies#ahmed). I am also one of the Board Members of the Garowe Teacher Training Institute based in Garowe Teacher Training College (GTEC) in based. I have a double Masters Degrees in Cultural Anthropology, University of Leiden and in Advanced Development Studies, Radboud University both in the Netherlands. I am fluent in Somali, Zambian languages, Dutch, English.
